The complete Acoustimass 7 system consists of:

Acoustimass Bass Module: This passive subwoofer unit is the heart of the system. It contains two 5.25-inch low-frequency drivers and houses the crossover network, which directs the appropriate frequencies to the cube speakers and to the bass drivers within the module itself. The bass module is unshielded, so it should be placed at least 2 feet away from a television or video screen to prevent interference.
Three Cube Speaker Arrays: These are magnetically shielded, making them safe to place near a television. They are designed to handle the left, right, and center channels in a home theater setup. Each cube array contains two 2.5-inch wide-range drivers. The “Direct/Reflecting” design is intended to create a wide sound image that fills the room.
Wiring: The system includes a set of speaker cables to connect the bass module to the receiver and the cube speakers to the bass module. The cube speakers cannot be connected directly to a receiver without the Acoustimass module, as the module contains the necessary crossover circuitry.

Bose provides clear guidelines for setting up the Acoustimass 7 to achieve the best sound:

Cube Speaker Placement: The left and right front cube speakers should be placed at least 6 feet apart, and the center speaker should be positioned directly on top of or below the television.
Bass Module Placement: The bass module can be placed vertically or horizontally and can be hidden behind or under furniture, as bass tones are non-directional. Bose recommends placing it at the same end of the room as the cube speakers and at least 2 feet from any video screen. Adjusting its distance from a wall or corner can increase or decrease the bass output.
